Empowerment Congress 33rd Summit

January 25 @ 8:30 am - 1:00 pm

The last week has been unexpectedly harrowing. The catastrophe that is overwhelming Los Angeles County is leading to even more homelessness, divisive rhetoric and politicization of a deeply impactful tragedy, and is manifesting chaos for so many individuals and families. We have also seen a tremendous community response that has shown how powerful we are as a collective.

As firefighting personnel work tirelessly to control the flames that have already affected the majority of our lives, we know that there will be a need to rebuild and that task will require engagement to a degree we have yet to understand. The 33rd Annual Empowerment Congress Summit serves as an opportunity to start the conversations that can direct our course for the foreseeable future. Join the Empowerment Congress, the Institute for Nonviolence in Los AngelesKBLA Talk 1580, and Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science on Saturday, January 25, 2025 to examine the question “Where Do We Go From Here – Chaos or Democracy?”

This year’s program will include two moderated panels to start the dialogue around chaos or democracy from both the public policy and philanthropy lenses. Featured guests include:

  • Hon. Sydney Kamlager-Dove, 37th District, U.S. House of Representatives
  • Hon. Holly J. Mitchell, Second District Supervisor, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors
  • Hon. Karen Bass, Mayor, City of Los Angeles
  • Hon. Marqueece Harris-Dawson, President, Los Angeles City Council
  • Joanna Jackson, President & CEO, Weingart Foundation
  • Miguel Santana, President & CEO, California Community Fund
